Using the mind to change the brain Dr Rick Hanson
Neuroscience continues to reveal the power and importance of neuroplasticity in building and maintaining our psychological well-being and our ability to cope with stress. This course introduces some of these latest research findings and provides a practical framework for implementing them in our own daily lives.
Over 30 years ago Jon Kabat-Zinn pioneered a mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) programme at the University of Massachusetts Medical School hospital, and since then mindfulness approaches have gained respect and support all over the world and are now increasingly offered in various forms in many work places, schools and communities.
This 6 week course, Introduction to Mindfulness, has a two hour per week format and is a non-religious, practical skill-based workshop programme. It combines information and resources from the most recent research in brain science, psychology and the social sciences with simple daily techniques and guided practices in a supportive group setting that trains participants in the regulation of attention and builds a routine of individual practice.
